Become an enabler and partner in innovation
How do cities work as testbeds for new business and service development? How can the city support local entrepreneurs, bringing in vibrant services that brighten up the city image and attract new citizens and business?
Smart Retro brings together startups and established private and public organisations to create new innovations and business models. For cities, the framework offers an opportunity to collaborate with startups and through them, gain valuable insights into the sharing economy, digitalization and their agile ways of working.
Through the process of co-creation and testing ideas rapidly in practice, cities learn how to become enablers and partners in innovation. By bringing together cities, startups and private actors, we create an ecosystem for sourcing, choosing, accelerating and testing new ideas in a given theme.
The first ever Smart Retro programme was focused on urban services and finished in 2016. Initiated in the three Nordic cities of Lahti, Stockholm and Norway, the programme was aimed at building the missing link between the big players of the built environment and the smartups providing new services, the link between the atoms and the bits, the physical and the digital.
